adding a widget for tasks due this week

You can do this by creating a widget for a particular Smart List.
You can create a Smart List that searches for dueWithin:"1 week of today" OR dueBefore:today (or dueBefore:Monday if you're looking at a fixed week) and then just create a widget for that list.
